Position Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Assistant provides basic maintenance and repair of terminal buildings, grounds and equipment in order to preserve and improve functionality, security, safety and aesthetics. This role works under the supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, performing facilities maintenance in a variety of light construction, preventative maintenance, repair, and upkeep projects.
The Facilities Maintenance Assistant must be comfortable in frequent, consistent, and proactive contact with tenants, peers, vendors and the general public.
Pay Range: $21 – $23 Hourly (DOE)
Schedule: Monday – Friday 8.00 AM to 5.00 PM
Responsibilities and Duties
• Assist supervisor in all phases of building maintenance and repair work necessary to maintain and operate the Terminal facilities.
• Supports the supervisor and/or contractors with maintenance work on the ground areas at the Airport including mechanical systems, and electrical systems, under guidance but with occasional independent tasks.
• Assist in all phases of maintenance work which include the mechanical and security components of the mechanical systems, lift stations and other plumbing systems, following instructions and receiving guidance as necessary.
• Assist with repairing, testing, and maintaining a variety of mechanical equipment such as pumps, jet bridges, and baggage belts.
• Assist with all phases of maintenance, and repair projects requiring skills in plumbing, painting, and carpentry, with a focus on learning and applying skills.
• Checks equipment for routine service needs and provides maintenance work when required.
• Operates front-end loaders and dump trucks and drives and operates sweeper vehicles, including snow removal vehicles.
• Assists supervisor with time and materials estimating and ordering.
• Assist supervisor with keeping and routing purchasing documents and computer-based maintenance records and reports.
• Assists with airport emergencies and supports a safe environment through identification and elimination of any safety hazards to staff, tenants, and customers.
• Operates automotive and other specialized mechanical equipment and uses a wide variety of hand and power tools.
• Performs escort duties in Airport security areas.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Some exposure to building and grounds maintenance or repair, or a general interest in learning about at least two of the building trades. No formal experience required—training will be provided to help develop the necessary skills to perform the duties effectively.
• Rudimentary or basic understanding of air conditioning, plumbing, heating, mechanical, and electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, and to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute area, circumference, and volume in practical situations.
• Familiar with the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in facility maintenance is a plus.
• Experience in Airport Terminal Facilities and/or Knowledge of airport operations and FAA regulations is a plus.
• Experience with operating light and heavy equipment to include forklifts, scissor lift, snow removal equipment, and utility vehicles is a plus.
Working Conditions
• Availability to be on call for emergencies or critical issues during off-hours.
• Work is frequently performed in uncontrollable outside weather conditions of heat, cold, dampness, rain, snow, and loud noises.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Other Requirements
This position requires a detailed background investigation to acquire and maintain a sterile side Airport access (SIDA) badge.
Valid Driver’s License. Driving records will be required.
This position is subject to pre-employment, random, and post incident drug screenings.
